Active and Pasive Voice & Infinites of Purpose - Jeimy Fabregas

Active and Pasive Voice:

Present simple (active):

- What do you usually do on the weekends?

- I visit my grandparents in the countryside. They always make me feel welcome.

Present simple (pasive):

- Who usually cleans the office?

- The office is cleaned by the cleaning staff every evening.

 

Present continuous (active):

- What are you doing right now?

- I'm writing a report for work.

Present continuous (pasive):

- Why are the roads blocked?

- The roads are being blocked for a parade that is happening later.

 

Past simple (active):

- Did you watch the game last night?

- Yes, I watched the entire thing. My team won!

 Past simple (pasive):

- Was the package delivered yet?

- Yes, the package was delivered this morning by the postman.

 

Past continuous (active):

- What were you doing when I called you earlier?

- I was taking a shower. I didn't hear the phone ring.

 Past continuous (pasive):

- Why were the students complaining?

- The students were being given a difficult test by the teacher.

 

Present perfect (active):

- Have you ever traveled outside of the country?

- Yes, I have visited several countries in Europe.

 Present perfect (pasive):

- Has the report been submitted yet?

- No, the report hasn't been submitted. I'm still working on it.

 

Past perfect (active):

- Had you ever tried sushi before?

- No, I had never tried sushi until I went to Japan last year.

 Past perfect (pasive):

- Why were the parks closed yesterday?

- The parks had been closed for repairs that needed to be done.

 

Future simple (active):

- What will you do if it rains tomorrow?

- I'll stay inside and read a book if it rains.

 Future simple (pasive):

- When will the concert tickets go on sale?

- The concert tickets will be put on sale next week.



Infinites of Purpose:

Positive:

- Why are you learning to play the guitar?

- I'm learning to play the guitar to entertain my friends.

 

Negative:

- Why didn't you buy any snacks for the party?

- I didn't buy any snacks for the party to save money.

 

Interrogative:

1. Why do you always wake up early?

2. Why did you decide to learn Spanish?
